Cyprus Small Vessel Register: Key Requirements for Pleasure Craft Registration
Cyprus requires all pleasure craft navigating its waters to be properly registered, either in the Cyprus Ship Registry for international navigation or in the Small Vessel Register for vessels operating solely within Cyprus’s territorial waters. The Small Vessel Register applies primarily to vessels under thirteen metres in length used for coastal navigation, as well as vessels without a complete or permanent deck used for fishing, barges, or other coastal activities within the Republic of Cyprus or the Sovereign Base Areas.
Registration is essential to ensure compliance with the Small Craft Control Regulations of 1955 and to promote safety and security at sea. The process typically involves submitting vessel documentation confirming the vessel’s existence, such as a builder’s certificate or bill of sale, as well as ownership and compliance records including Know Your Customer documentation. The Small Vessel Register also handles related matters such as changes of ownership, vessel name or engine details, registration following auction purchases, and the replacement of lost registration certificates.
